Take responsibility of insecurity ravaging your states - IGP tell governors

The inspector general of Police, Mohammed Adamu, on Wednesday, February 5, urged governors across the 36 states of Nigeria to take up responsibility if security residents in the states and their property.

Adamu after a meeting with lawmakers of the ninth Senate said those committing various crimes across the states in the country have their reasons. Daily Trust reports that while briefing the senators on the concept and strategies for the proposed community policing said a lot of challenges in the states give way to criminal activities. "If it is lack of employment, if it is lack of education or those issues that will require intervention by the government, the state governors should take responsibility, local government chairmen should take responsibility," Adamu said. Noting that solving insecurity cannot be left in the hands of security agencies alone, the IGP said there are plans to take policing back to communities. He also urged members and leaders of communities in Nigeria to help the Police in identifying crime. According to them, when members of communities help the Police with relevant information, issues surrounding criminal activities solved within the shortest period of time. In his reaction to the presentation by the IGP, the Senate president, Ahmad Lawan, urged the Police chief to finds ways of dealing with the rise of insecurity in the country. “The police force must find a way to be more operationally proactive to protect the lives of the citizens," Lawan said.
