The minister of state for labour and employment, Festus Keyamo, has replied Senator Eyinanya over his call for President Muhammadu Buhari to resign as the number one citizen of the country.

According to reports, The minister in a tweet posted on his Twitter page on Friday, January 31, described the call as unnecessary, adding that the hullaballoo that greeted Abaribe's comment needed not to have arisen. The human rights lawyer said it is usual in any democratic setting all over the world that the opposition parties would also find something to discredit the government in power. He said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and those calling for the president to resign knew that such a thing would never happen in Nigeria. Keyamo, however, said that the government understands that the opposition was telling the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government to do more for the citizenry by their call for President Buhari to resign. He also added that the federal government should also see the call as a wake-up call to do more for Nigerians. "The hullabaloo over the call by the opposition for the resignation of the President is unnecessary. It’s the usual singsong of opposition all over the world. They know it’s not going to happen. It’s just a way of telling govt to do more and we in govt. should see it in that light," he said. A Twitter user, Lion of Nigeria, who commented on Keyamo's post, said he would be happy if the people in government could reason the way he did. He said: "I wish everyone in government saw things the way you do. Keep it up, let not the perks of power alter you. More grease to your elbows, sir." Folarin Ademola, another Twitter user, lambasted Keyamo over his post, saying President Buhari did worse when the former president Goodluck Jonathan was in power.
