Middle belt citizens want security outfit like Amotekun despite Malami's statement

Nigerians from the middle belt have reportedly indicated readiness to create a regional security outfit, similar to Operation Amotekun created by southwest governors. According to reports, the people of Benue state and the Middle Belt said they were not opposed to the initiative. They said they would emulate the security initiative following the declaration by the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami, that the southwest security outfit is illegal. Citing anonymous sources, the national daily newspaper reports that the Benue state government is open to having such a similar outfit in the middle belt. The sources reportedly stated that governments of the middle belt zone are prepared to emulate the initiative. one of the sources said the middle belt will create a regional security outfit irrespective of the federal government's pronouncement. The source advised the federal government to support regional security outfit initiative rather than discourage it.
