IGP strongly warns police commanders against illegal roadblocks, harassment

Police special unit commanders have been warned against deployment of operatives on unauthorized duties, mounting of illegal roadblocks, and other misconducts. It was reported that the inspector general of police, Mohammed Adamu, issued the warning on Wednesday, January 8, when he met with the unit commanders in Abuja. It was gathered that the police boss also cautioned the commanders against harassing citizens and misuse of firearms. Adamu noted that there have been several reports of illegal and unprofessional acts by police operatives which are against the directives of the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force. He reminded the operatives that their duty is to protect the lives and property of Nigerians and to do so within the ambit of the law and international standards. The police chief warned the commanders that they would be held liable for the misconduct of the officers under their commands.
