Block leakages in LG accounts - FG tells auditors-general
The federal government in its bid to strengthen the fight against corruption has instructed auditors-general to block avenues through which funds are stolen at the local governments/area councils.
The instruction was given by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) minister of state, Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu at the 24th annual conference of auditors-general for local governments/area councils in the federation held in Abuja on Thursday, December 5. The minister who was represented by the special assistant on area council services, Muhammad Saba, said the auditors-general have a key role to play in the anti-graft war by the federal government. According to the minister, there was a need to promote good governance, transparency, probity, and accountability by ensuring that financial rules, regulations and extant circulars are adequately followed in the application of funds at all levels of government. Speaking at the occasion, the secretary of the conference of auditors-general of the federation, who is also auditor-general of the FCT area council, Hajiya Kudirat Abdul-Hamid, urged auditors-general ensure prudent use of federal government allocations to local governments and area councils.
