ICPC says N3.76 billion inserted in 2019 budget at the risk of being stolen
The Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) has disclosed that about N3.76bn out of the N100 billion allocated for constituency projects in the 2019 budget are opaque and are at risk of being stolen.
According to reports, The anti-corruption agency in a report stated that the ICPC categorised the opaque appropriations into empowerment and capacity building. The ICPC chairman, Bolaji Owasanoye who made the disclosure on Thursday, November 28, said he could not find what projects they are meant for. “These empowerment projects are so opaque that it is difficult to track them,” the ICPC chairman said. He, however, noted that his agency has flagged the appropriations so that that money will not be released for them. Meanwhile, despite the fight against corruption by President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration, the ICPC said it uncovered N12.4 billion padded into the 2019 budget. The Cable reports that the chairman of ICPC, Bolaji Owasanoye, made this known on Thursday, November 14, in Abuja while giving a report on the tracking of constituency projects in the country. The ICPC boss said that about a month ago, the commission prevented N9.2 billion from leaving the government’s purse.
