No Nigerian governor is in support of death penalty for hate speech as is being proposed in the Senate under a bill currently being considered by the upper chamber, Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto state has declared.
        Governor Tambuwal disclosed this to journalists on Wednesday, November 20, in Abuja, while urging the Senate to respect the wishes of Nigerians concerning the bill. The governor further urged the National Assembly to organise a public hearing on the bill to make it pass through the actual processes for passage. "I am not sure I have heard any governor come out to say he is in support of the death penalty for hate speech. “I believe the National Assembly should hold a public hearing on that bill so that due process of lawmaking is followed so that the views of Nigerians not just the governors will be well captured on that bill," he said. Vanguard reports that the governor also spoke on the controversial minimum wage saying his colleagues are currently talking with labour organisations in their states. "I’m sure it is work in progress before December all the states must have finished working out the details on the issue of minimum wage across the federation," He assured that the governors are committed to the welfare of the civil servants in their states.
