Sultan backs the use of Hijab for female students in Nigerian schools

Following controversies on the wearing of Hijab in schools, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has given an argument in support of it.

                According to the respected monarch, female Muslim students across the country have the constitutional right to use Hijab in schools, Daily Trust reports. He disclosed this in Ibadan on Sunday, November 17, while speaking at the 4th General Assembly of the Muslim Ummah of South-West Nigeria (MUSWEN). The theme of the event which was held at the University of Ibadan was “Muslim Unity and Contemporary Political Challenges in Nigeria”. The sultan consequently urged parents to always demand for their rights, whenever they are being denied within the ambit of the law. However, he cautioned those advocating for the use of Hijab and various organisations championing the welfare of Muslims in the country to seek redress in a peaceful manner instead of open confrontations. Mean there have being repeated cases of confrontations between some parents University of Ibadan International School and school authorities of the school's refusal to allow female muslim students to put on Hijab as part of their school uniforms.
