NDDC committee not set up to witch-hunt anyone - Ojuogboh
The interim management committee of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has said its primary task is not to jail people during its probe into the activities of the commission.
This was disclosed by the acting executive director, project, Dr Cairo Ojuogboh on Wednesday, November 12. The Nation reports that Ojuogboh noted that the committee was mandated by President Muhammadu Buhari to recover all funds illegally applied by the NDDC. He stated that the committee is to, within a short time, midwife, guide and support external forensic auditors in their job. It will also produce a report of the forensic audit, detailing how the place was run and who collected money for projects without executing them. He emphasised, however, that the committee was not set up to witch-hunt or victimise anyone. “We are not interested in sending anybody to jail. Our job and our interest are recovering every money that is due to the people of the Niger Delta, that has been misappropriated,” he explained. He stated that at the end of the committee's assignment, Nigerians would have known the correct position about the finances of the NDDC. He revealed that people who got jobs and didn’t do them are now rushing to site to finish their contracts.
