Presidency makes official statement on alleged sack of Osinbajo’s 35 aides

In the past few days, the media has being agog with the news that president Buhari has approved the sacking of 35 aides serving under the office of the vice president, one of the aides was reported to be the daughter of a former governor. But the spokesman to the vice president has come out to debunk the rumor.

According to Laolu Akande, the spokesman of Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, he told the public to ignore a list circulating in the media alleging that some presidential aides have been sacked.  A news report had surfaced on Wednesday, November 6, claiming that President Muhammadu Buhari sacked 35 aides working in the office of Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo. The said report listed Jibola Ajayi, daughter of Abiola Ajimobi, former governor of Oyo state and Babajide, grandson of Obafemi Awolowo, and others as those affected by the decision. But Akande in a tweet on Thursday, 7 November, discredited the said report.  A list circulating in the media on d so-called sacked presidential aides is not genuine and ought to be ignored,” Laolu Akande also apologised to a photo journalist Abayomi Adeshida who was rough handled by security officials at the presidential villa on Thursday, November 7, where the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), chaired by Abike Dabiri-Erewa, organised a summit. In a tweet, Akande expressed regrets over the embarrassment the incident caused, disclosing that he had reached out to the journalist involved. “The needless scuffle btw a villa accredited photographer, Mr. Adeshida & one of our security aides earlier today has since been resolved. Incident is regretted & I have apologized to him for any embarrassment caused…” he said.
