A police convoy in the Kirikassamma local government area of Jigawa was on Saturday, November 3, attacked by a gang of herdsmen after they had taken over some farmlands in the state.
        According to residents in the area, one of the police officers was injured after being shot by an arrow from a herdsman; although the spokesperson of the force in the state, Audu Jinjiri, said that the wounded staff has been taken to a hospital in Yobe. It was gathered from a resident in the area, Ibrahim Bara’u, that the herdsmen were still operating in forest around the community, a report which was confirmed by Usman Maiunguwa-Jaga, Jgawa’s chairman of Rice Farmers Association (AFAN). However, the police spokesperson said that following the immediate response of officers, peace and order have returned to the community. Jinjiri said: “The police have been responding to distress calls from the communities. Apart from the conventional police officers, we also mobile officers in the communities. “The herders are on transit in the area. Only the stubborn ones leave their camp to destroy farms. The police have sent officers there to protect lives and property.”
