Wadume: Slain officers' colleagues react to delay of soldiers' trial

Some colleagues of the Police officers killed during the arrest of a suspected kidnapper, Hamisu Bala, have decried the delayed trial of the soldiers involved in the botched rescue. These officers blamed the delay of the prosecution of the soldiers on the lingering investigations on the matter.
According to report, The officers described the delay in the investigation and further prosecution of those involved as demoralising. One of the officers said: “Our hearts cannot stop bleeding as the killers of our departed colleagues have not been punished." The officer also said that it is unfortunate that the soldiers involved in the rescue of Bala popularly known as Wadume have remained in detention without a plan to dismiss and hand them over to us for prosecution. “Yes, the captain and his colleagues are in detention in Adamawa but they have not been punished. Information at our disposal is that the captain is too connected and that nothing will come out of the case," the officer said. Noting that the matter seemed to be dying a natural death, another officer said the five AK-47 rifles, three pistols and other belongings of the police officers confiscated by the military during the confrontation are yet to be released to the police or their families as the case may be.
