Military court-martials 7 suspects over Alex Badeh’s assassination
Seven military men are facing a court-martial over the death of Air Marshal Alex Badeh, who was killed in an ambush on the Keffi - Abuja expressway in December 2018.
The Nation reports that among those being tried is an aide-de-camp (ADC) to the former chief of defence staff. The newspaper stated that a security report suggested that Badeh’s death was connected to alleged security lax around the former chief of defence when he was shot dead. Security sources told the newspaper that based on the report the ADC and six others were recommended by the military authority for trial by a court-martial to unravel the truth behind Badeh’s killing. The Nation said a source questioned why the route the late Badeh normally took from his farm to his residence was changed the day he was killed. The source also queried why the aide-de-camp of Badeh was reported not to be in the same car with his boss contrary to security protocol for such a highly-placed officer. Another fault noted by the source was why the pilot vehicle was behind Badeh’s car instead of being in front in line with security procedures. The source further noted that the security officials were said to have delayed in notifying the appropriate authorities about the attack on Badeh and the circumstances behind it.
