The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, has said that the constitution, the electoral act would be amended by the ninth assembly.

                Gbajabiamila, while speaking at a meeting with a team from Policy and Legal Advocacy Centre (PLAC) in his office on Thursday, October 31, said the House will also give priority to the Petroleum Industry Governance Bill (PIGB), the Police Reform Bill, the Companies and the Allied Matters Act (CAMA) amendment bill. He also said that the House will ensure that appropriate work is done on these bills to enable their assent by President Muhammadu Buhari. Gbajabiamila said: "As you know, the 9th House is a House of reforms. ‎We’re going to be doing all that. You did talk about pending legislation such as electoral laws. We’re on the same page on this. We can’t move forward if we don’t understand the history and circumstances that led to the inability to do some things." In his response, the executive director of PLAC, Clement Nwankwo, said it would be important for members of the House to work towards strengthening their activities in the interest of the people of Nigeria. Nwankwo said non-governmental organisations in Nigeria must be allowed the freedom to operate and discharge their responsibility of holding public officers accountable and ensuring transparency in governance. He said: “We should have a public hearing where all of us will sit down and discuss these issues. I agree that regulations hamper businesses, but NGOs are not businesses."
