Scores of kidnappers killed after gun battle with hunters in Taraba state
Scores of kidnappers have been killed in Taraba after a gun battle with over 200 hunters mobilised by the state government. Daily Trust reports that the hunters engaged the kidnappers in a serious battle in the forest and killed many of them.
The hunters, which were mobilised from various parts of the state, were said to have entered into the bush in Mallam Ali area in Ardo-kola local government area and dealt a heavy blow to the kidnappers in their den. According to the report, the hunters went into the bush on Monday, October 28 and displaced the kidnappers who have been terrorizing farming communities in the area and the Jalingo-Mutumbiyu federal highway. A hunter quoted in the report, but spoke on condition of anonymity, said many of the bandits were killed while several others were captured alive. He revealed that the battle was being fought by hunters only, without any support of security agencies. He said a son of a prominent member of the community was picked over his link with the bandits, while some prominent members of the community were also mentioned by the bandits. The Taraba government had engaged the hunters to assist security agents to tackle banditry and kidnapping which is on the rise in the state.
