Locals flee as heavily armed bandits invade 17 Kaduna villages
A report by Channels Television indicates that heavily armed bandits have attacked several villages in Igabi local government area of Kaduna state.
According to the report, the incident occurred on Sunday, October 20 causing many villagers to flee their homes. The gunmen were alleged to have killed three vigilante members who went into the forest to confront them. The displaced persons are said to be about 2,000 and are currently taking refuge at Ba primary school located along the Kaduna-Zaria road amidst tight security.
A senior police officer told TheCable that security personnel are on the trail of the gunmen. “The team of policemen, including mobile policemen, are trailing the bandits and at the same time fortifying security around the area so that people will have the confidence to return to their settlements,” he said. Recall that a bandit was recently killed in Chikun local government area of Kaduna state after troops of Operation Whirl Punch launched an attack on their camps. The troops consisting of a joint team of the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air Force, Nigerian Police, Department of State Services and Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps also destroyed two camps belonging to the bandits in the area.
