Over N6 billion dubious contracts discovered in NIWA’s budgets

The National Assembly is said to have discovered contract infractions in the appropriated bill for the National Inland Waterways Agency (NIWA) in 2017 and 2019 budgets.
            The discovery worth billions of naira were allegedly made by the House of Representatives Committee on Inland Waterways, Land Transport, Ports & Harbors, and Marine Safety & Education and the Senate Committee on Marine Transport. Daily Trust reports that the discrepancies were noticed by the committee which said that the majority of the projects for which funds were released in the budget were never executed. According to the committee during the joint sitting for the 2019/2020 budget defence by the Federal Ministry of Transportation and NIWA, the non-existing projects were worth N6 billion. These project the committee said includes, acquisition of Vessels and Barges and procurement of dredgers and other equipment.
