Senate Begins Debate On 2020 Budget
The ninth Senate chaired by Ahmed Lawan on Wednesday, October 8, begun the debate on the general principles of the appropriation bill of 2020. This is coming a day after President Muhammadu Buhari presented the N10.7 trillion as proposed expenditure for 2020 at the National Assembly on Tuesday, October 8, The Nation reports.
Senate president Ahmed Lawan had earlier revealed when the 2020 budget would be passed by the National Assembly. The Senate president said that the budget will be passed before the end of December 2019. He said that ministries, departments and agencies have not more than October to make their defence before the the committee of the Senate. Lawan said: “We have earmarked the month of October to be the sole window for all budget defence activities in this year by all MDAs. Our committees will be expected to conclude their work on budget defence within October 2019. “The subsequent necessary legislative work will be carried out in November and December leading to eventual passage before December 31.”
