League Two side Colchester United knock Tottenham out of Carabao Cup
Colchester vs Tottenham ended 4-3 on penalties as the League Two outfit went through into the round of 16 of the Carabao Cup. The Premier League side were shocked at the result after a dramatic shoot-out saw Colchester qualify into the next stage of the competition.
The home side held Mauricio Pochettino's men all through 90 minutes as they never looked like coming out of the fixture as winners. But it was Tom Lapslie who struck the winning spot-kick for John McGreal’s men after Lucas Moura hit the cross-bar with his own penalty kick. Spurs have had a shaky start to new Premier League season which saw them drop to seventh on the log and ten points behind leaders Liverpool, following a 2-1 defeat to Leicester City. The Lilly Whites also surrendered a two-goal lead away to Olympiacos to draw 2-2 in their Champions League opening fixture against the Greek champions. Tottenham will be home to both Southampton in the Premier League at the weekend and Bayern Munich in the Champions League next midweek.
