Reps to convey emergency session over Xenophobic attacks
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, has announced that he will be cutting short his stay at the CommonWealth Parliamentary Conference holding in Tanzania due to the killings of Nigerians in South Africa.
Gbajabiamila made the announcement on Twitter on Tuesday, noting that the leadership of the House will consider cutting short the House annual recess. Will be cutting short my trip to Tanzania for the 50th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference @CPA_Secretariat and will be leaving today, for the leadership of the @HouseNGR to consider cutting short the recess and reconvening for one day to address the killings of Nigerians in SA” he tweeted. It would be recalled that in 2017, Gbajabiamila who was the majority leader of the House led a delegation of the House to South Africa over the Xenophobic attacks, however, these attacks continue despite the legislative intervention. The House is expected to resume on Sept. 17th.
