Alison-Madueke: Court orders FG to take over property of ex-minister
The federal government was on Tuesday, July 9, ordered by the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos to take over a plot of land in Port Harcourt, Rivers state which allegedly belongs to Diezani Alison-Madueke, the former petroleum minister.
The land, said to be part of the proceeds of unlawful activities, is situated along Azikiwe Road, Old GRA (UAC Property on Forces Avenue), Port Harcourt. The order issued by Justice Chuka Obiozor, came after an application by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). In the suit, the EFCC mentioned Alison-Madueke, Donald Amangbo, and Sequoyah Property Limited as respondents, adding that the latter was used to transfer and keep custody of the said property. Revealing that the firm was registered in 2011 in the fictitious name of Chukwudinma Nwako and Olisa Eloka Nwaku as shareholders and directors, the anti-graft agency prayed the court for permission "to appoint a competent person or firm to manage the asset/property.
The EFCC, through its lawyer, Ebuka Okongwu, asked the court to prevent “any disposal, conveyance, mortgage, lease, sale or alienation or otherwise of the asset/property.” Okongwu stated that going by Section 17 of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Related Offences of Act 2006, Justice Obiozor had the power to give the order.
