Nigeria distribution companies battling with obsolete equipment - DisCo
Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (DISCO) has revealed that distribution companies across the country are battling with obsolete equipment and as a result of this, it would take longer time for Nigerians to get stable power supply. This was disclosed by the managing director and chief executive officer of Abuja DISCO, Ernest Mukwoya, in Minna.
According to Mukwoya, the company inherited obsolete equipment from the defunct former Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN). He said as a result of this, companies were unable to make profit since they took over. Mukwoya who was represented by Israel Fadipe, general manager corporate communications of Abuja DISCO, said: “The equipment we are using today has lasted for over 115 years and for us to replace these items, we need time and money because the power sector is capital intensive. “The fact is that we are not getting back the money we are supposed to be getting back from the consumers, hence we are not making profit.” He also blamed consumers and vandals for compounding the problems in the sector.
