Sri Lanka to Provide Police Protection for Schools
Sri Lanka will provide police protection for all schools when they reopen on Monday 6 May after being closed after suicide bombings on Easter Sunday. At least one police officer will be deployed to every school in the country to ensure the protection of children when the schools start operating on 6 May, Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam said at a press conference.
Principals were aske d to provide additional security for children while they are inside the schools, specifically to introduce some system to identify each child in the school, the incumbent added. He also said protection will be provided to Catholic schools, as requested by the church. We have given Christian religious leaders the opportunity to decide when to start their schools,’ he said.
