President Buhari launches pension scheme for self-employed Nigerians.

        President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday, March 28, launched the Micro Pension Plan (MPP) that is aimed to benefit self-employed Nigerians. President Buhari launched the programme at the State House, Abuja with the registration of a Keke NAPEP operator, Sagir Shawa. It was reported that the president said the programme was conceived for Nigerians in the informal sector of the country.

         He appealed to trade associations, unions and NGOs in the informal sector to join hands with the government in enlightening their members on the importance of the scheme. According to him, This initiative will capture those that are not fully captured in the existing pension scheme. 'In the past three years, we have provided loans to farmers and others in the the informal sector. The micro pension plan is the next step. The scheme, according to the presidency, will also benefit employees who work in organizations with less than three staff. The statement announcing the plan, notes that the MPP is part of the federal government’s efforts to bring financial inclusion to all working Nigerians.
