Boko Haram insurgents have attacked Michika town in Michika Local Government Area of Adamawa State, on Monday night, bombing the only commercial bank in the town and razing some buildings in another community. The Adamawa State Police Command Tuesday morning confirmed that the insurgents arrived the town at 7pm and began their destructive activities, but that a reinforcement of security personnel soon intervened to redeem the situation.
Witnesses said the insurgents seized control of the town for a while, scaring hundreds of residents into surrounding bushes, before soldiers arrived from Madagali.
Madagali Local Government Area, which was attacked severally by Boko Haram terrorists towards the February 16 and March 9 general elections, is a neighbouring LGA to Michika.
Both LGAs are among the 14 where the March 23 supplementary governorship election will take place.
Sources indicated that in the Monday attack on Michika, the insurgents bombed the only banking facility in the town; as well as houses in Koppa village as the insurgents fled towards Sambisa with soldiers on their trail.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Adamawa State, SP Othman Abubakar, who confirmed the attack, said nobody had been reported to have died following the attack on Michika.
