An ex-governor of Plateau State, Joshua Dariye, has had his 14-years prison term reduced to 10 years by an Abuja Court of Appeal on Friday, which held held that as a first time offender, the applying the maximum sentence of 14 years was excessive.
Justice Stephen Adah who read the unanimous judgment of the three-man panel also quashed the sentence in count 12, in which Dariye had been for not guilty and should never have been sentenced on the charge.
The court also quashed count 23 because it was not proven beyond reasonable doubt that Dariye diverted the state funds to purchase a house in London.
The court, therefore, reduced the sentences to 10 years for each count which is to run concurrently.
Joshua Dariye, had been sentenced to 14 years imprisonment on June 12, 2018, on charges of criminal breach of trust and criminal appropriation of the state's funds running to over N2billion by the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
