Failed assassination attempt on Sen. Ekweremadu at his Abuja residence

The Deputy Senate President of the Nigerian Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu is said to have escaped an assassination attempt on his life in the early hours of Tuesday, November 6, in his residence in the nation's capital Abuja.
According to a statement by his aide, Uche Anichukwu, the armed men had sneaked into his home, evading his security personnel before capturing his son who forced into leading them to his father's bedroom.
"It was in the ensuring struggle in the Senator's bedroom that security was alerted, leading to the arrest of one of the assailants with dangerous weapon and housebreaking devices, while the rest manged to escape," Anichukwu was quoted as saying in the statement.
The statement added that the arrested suspect has been handed over to the police.
