Minimum Wage: Activities grounded by NLC strike action

Following the deadlock in the meeting between the federal government and leaders from the Nigeria Labour Congress over the country's minimum wage, workers across the country are observing the strike action called by the union which began Thursday September 27.
Punch Newspaper reports that activities at the Federal Secretariat in Abuja have been paralysed as most workers failed to resume in accordance with the directives of the union's leadership.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) also reports that activities at the Benin Airport are grounded as both the entry and exit gates were locked, leaving hundreds of passengers stranded.
Chairman of the Edo State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Mr Emmanuel Ademokun told NAN that he and his team have observed satisfaction with the level of compliance.
He said, "We want to ensure that workers in the state comply with the directive of the NLC on industrial action.
"We are not just sitting, but going around to monitor things ourselves.
"I am quite satisfied with what I have seen so far and this will continue until there is a directive from the national secretariat."
