35-year-old man fined N250,000 for defiling minor

A 35-year-old man has been sentenced to three years three years imprisonment with an option of N250,000 fine after a family court sitting in Akure found him guilty of having unlawful sexual intercourse with an 11-year-old girl.
Officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps arrested the man after he had committed the offence at FUTA South Gate area of Akure Magisterial District between February 26, 2018 and March 13, 2018 and was brought before the court on one count charge of having unlawful sexual intercourse with an underage girl.
The NSCDC Prosecutor, Mr. David Ebriku said the offence is contrary to and punishable under Section 32(1) and (2) of the Ondo State Child's Right Law 2007. But Mr. Ifeoluwa Omotosho, counsel to the convict, pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy.
Mrs. Comfort Adeyanju, the Magistrate in her judgement said after going through the exhibits presented, she believes that the convict truly had unlawful sexual intercourse with the minor.
