Trump issues travel ban on North Korea, Venezuela and Chad; Iran, Libya, Syria, Yemen and Somalia remain on list

- Trump issues travel ban on North Korea, Venezuela and Chad.

- Claims the U.S. needs to be able to properly vet anyone coming in.

- Amnesty International condemns the action.
President of the United States of America Donald Trump has issued new travel bans on citizens from North Korea, Venezuela and Chad thereby restricting them from traveling into the U.S..

This move by Trump is in line with his campaign promises and also his "America First" foreign policy.

"Making America Safe is my number one priority. We will not admit those into our country we cannot safely vet," the president said in a tweet shortly after the proclamation was released.

Although the previous restrictions on Sudan were lifted, Iran, Libya, Syria, Yemen and Somalia all remain on the list which has now expanded to eight.

Rights group Amnesty International USA also condemned the measures taken by the U.S. President through a statement issued shortly after.

"Just because the original ban was especially outrageous does not mean we should stand for yet another version of government-sanctioned discrimination," it said in a statement.

"It is senseless and cruel to ban whole nationalities of people who are often fleeing the very same violence that the U.S. government wishes to keep out. This must not be normalized."
