Hate Speech is now Terrorism - Osinbajo

- Hate Speech to be considered an act of Terrorism going forward.

- Osinbajo chairs monthly NEC Meeting.

- Police to become more community focused.
In the monthly National Economic Council meeting chaired by Acting President Yemi Osinbajo which held on Thursday 17th of August, the Acting President reassured Nigerians of the Buhari led administration to fulfill their promises especially in the areas of security, economy and the fight against corruption.

The following are the key excerpts from the statement issued from the Presidency's official twitter handle.

Osinbajo said "Yesterday I issued a Directive to the IG of @PoliceNG to institute our Community Policing Programme, to take effect immediately.

"There must be a fundamental change in the way policing is carried out in Nigeria. @PoliceNG must engage local communities effectively.

"We've drawn a line against Hate Speech, it will not be tolerated; it will be treated as an act of terrorism.

"The @MBuhari Admin came into office on a Vision that covered three key areas: Security, the Economy and the fight Against Corruption.

"All three issues - Security, the Economy, and Anti-Corruption/Transparency are closely linked.

"Without security, we will struggle to attract the investment, domestic or foreign, needed to create jobs/prosperity for our people.

"When those jobs are hard to find and keep, our people will naturally be more susceptible to the lure of criminal activity.

"Governments that are serious about fighting crime must be serious about fighting poverty.

"We are all witnesses to how, only a few years ago, corruption in the military enabled Boko Haram by robbing troops of morale & resources.

"Now is the time to implement our thinking and our talking on Security; to add action to our analysis.

"This action must be bold, ambitious, urgent and innovative.

"Nigeria's security challenges are not static, therefore our thinking and our solutions for them must equally be dynamic.

"Terrorists, insurgents, warmongers, secessionists, peddlers of hate speech use Tech. How can we use same tools to stay ahead of them?"
