US pledges $37m for Boko Haram victims

The U.S Agency for International Development (USAID) has upped funding assistance to Nigeria and Lake Chad Basin to the sum of $37 million, bringing the total to $318 million so far.
Director, U.S Office of Foreign Assistance, Jeremy Konyndyk disclosed this Wednesday when he led his team to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) headquarters in Abuja.
He said the new funding to United Nations and NGO partners will help tens of thousands of people receive critically needed humanitarian assistance, including food, water, shelter and services to address acute hygiene, protection and nutrition needs.
"With this announcement, the United States is providing more than $318 million in humanitarian assistance since FY 2015 to the Lake Chad Basin region and continues to be the single largest humanitarian donor to the region," he stated.
Director General of NEMA, Sidi Sanni said the humanitarian dashboard is changing.
"We are working towards the rehabilitation of the people and their communities, reconstruction of infrastructure and full recovery including livelihood options.
