Shi'ites denounce DSS claim of El-Zakzaky being in protective custody

Members of Nigeria's Shi'ite sect have denounced  claims made by the Department of State Security, DSS, that their leader,Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky, is in protective custody.

In a statement by the President of the Movements's Media Forum, Ibrahim Musa, the sect accused the security agency of admitting that there are some people within the high corridors of power who want to kill the Shi'ite leader extra-judiciously.

The Shi'ites therefore, called on the Federal Government to release Sheikh Zakzaky without pre-conditions adding "It is only this step that will explain away the mystery of protective custody".

In addition, Musa stated, "People with conscience all over the world were baffled, when on Tuesday 15th June, 2016 the Directorate of State Services, DSS mentioned before a Federal High Court in Abuja that it is holding the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky "in protective custody" in order to fend him off from those who are hell bent on murdering him.

El-Zakzaky had filed a suit against the Federal Government; seeking damages to the tune of two billion Naira, for unlawful arrest and detention.

But the hearing of the suit could not commence, as the DSS claimed he was being held under protective custody, and not being detained.
