NNPC reacts to reports of Kachikwu's sack

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) late evening on Thursday, denied that it's Group Management Director, Dr Ibe Kachikwu has been replaced.
Online media had reported on Thursday that Kachikwu who also doubles as the Minister of State Petroleum has been replaced by Maikanti Baru, a Group Executive Director of the corporation.

But the Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs, Garba Deen Muhammad said no change has been made.
"The story is completely false. It should be ignored by all Nigerians."
"The minister is currently in his office and has continued to function in the roles assigned to him by the president."

He said that it was not true Just baseless rumour. People should be careful what they pick up from junk social media platforms".

Online report stated that "the President Muhammadu Buhari led administration has replaced Dr Ibe Kachikwu as the Group Managing Director (GMD) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

"Kachikwu may have been removed from the post to pave way for him to face the state duties, especially in the wake of the unending fuel crisis in the country".
Similarly, an online medium, Premium Times also quoted a source from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), on the issue as "completely false". It said that the Minister of State for Petroleum is still carrying out his duties as assigned to him by the president.

It said that the report, which did not cite any official sources, also said that the president had named Maikanti Baru, NNPC Group Executive Director, as Mr. Kachikwu's replacement.
