NYSC to Increase Allowances as new Director General Assumes office

Brig Gen Sule Kazaure on Monday assumed duty as the new Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). He becomes the 17th DG of the NYSC set up in 1973 by former Head of State, Gen Yakubu Gowon.

Kazaure promised to priotise the welfare of corps members and the members of staff of the agency during his tenure.

At the handing over ceremony in Abuja, the new DG acknowledged that the task ahead is huge but said with unity of purpose, they can overcome.

"I know that the tasks ahead are enormous and the road is rough, but with unity of purpose we will make progress," he said.

Earlier, the immediate past NYSC DG, Brig Gen Johnson Olawumi, said their agitation to enhance the monthly allowance of serving corps members would soon be yielding the desired result.

He explained that the management of the scheme had written series of letter to the government to that effect and that there seems to be the ray of light at the end of tunnel.

Olawumi urged staff to extend the cooperation he enjoyed during his stay in the scheme to the new DG to achieve the desired result. Olawumi took over the NYSC leadership on 6 January 2014.
