Army/Shi'ite Clash: Efforts To See El-Zakzaky Being Frustrated, IMN Lawyer Cries Out

Counsel to Shi'ite group, Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), Mr. Festus Okoye, has said that the authorities of the Police and the Department of State Security (DSS) have been unable to produce its leader, Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky, almost three months after he was arrested.
Okoye, who appeared in Kaduna before the Judicial Commission of Inquiry into the bloody clash between the group and the Nigeria Army in December last year, said all the meetings fixed by the Police and the DSS to present El-Zakzaky did not produce any result.
Meanwhile, the group has maintained its position not to submit any memorandum to the panel until it has had access to El-Zakzaky.
It will be recalled that IMN had through its counsel at the February 29, 2016 sitting of the commission, threatened to withdraw its representation unless it has access to El-Zakzaky.
When it appeared on Monday to brief the commission of the efforts it made to see the leader without success, it accused the Police and the DSS of frustrating the initiative.
In his submission, Okoye, who stood in for the movement, told the commission how a letter was written to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) on behalf of IMN, followed by a meeting when it became clear that their client was not in the custody of the police without the desired result.
According to him: "We met with the Director-General of the Department of State Security (DSS) on February 9, 2016 and we had a meeting with him for two hours, yet we could not see our client.
