Senegal commences registration of nationals in Nigeria

Senegal has Commenced Registration Of his Nationals In Nigeria, This was made known by the Consul-General of the Republic of Senegal in Lagos, Mr Babacar Mbodj, on Tuesday.

Mbodj told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that the purpose was to know the number of Senegalese currently living, doing business
or schooling in Nigeria.

The consul-general also said the registration would enable the Senegalese in Nigeria posses their consular cards, as well as be able to
participate in their country's elections from some Nigerian cities.

He stressed that, "The Consulate-General of Senegal has commenced the registration of all Senegalese in various communities of Nigeria.

"We have been going round to sensitise them on the need for them to be registered in Nigeria.

"With the ongoing registration, it would be easy for the Senegalese government to know the number of its citizens currently in Nigeria,''
he said.

He also said that it was the outcome of the registration that would determine whether the Senegalese government would allow its nationals
to participate in their country's elections from Nigeria.

He also said that registration would enable the Senegalese in Nigeria to vote in the Referendum being proposed by the new president of Senegal, from Abuja, Ibadan, Kaduna and Kano.

The Envoy added that the registration would also create opportunities for the Senegalese to possess their country's voter's cards, as well as
enable the consulate provide support in emergency situations.

Mbodj, who said that the registration would be of benefit to the Senegalese in Nigeria, appealed to them to make out time for the
registration.

He enjoined senegalese living in Nigeria to freely visit the Consulate-General's Office in Lagos for the registration, adding that he and his team would continue to
visit Senegalese communities in Nigeria for their registration. (NAN)
