A lawyer based in Lagos had been accused of fondling the private part and breasts of a 9 year old girl. The lawyer was accused of doing this within the premises of the Tinubu Magistrate Court in Lagos. The girl was said to have come newly into the country and she had come to the court in company of her grandmother; the grandmother had a civil case in the court and the mother needed a lawyer to represent her in court. Earlier, the grandmother had approached the court clerk and asked for direction on the right lawyer to help handle her case and the court clerk had referred the grandmother to this particular lawyer.

The girl touched provocatively by the lawyer was said to have come into the country from England. The lawyer was said to have deceived the girl and lured her into an alley within the court premise where the two of them could be alone and he was said to have fondled the girl’s breast and private part while they were there. The girl was said to have cried out while the lawyer was fondling her and her cry had attracted the attention of her grandmother. The grandmother asked her granddaughter what made her cry out and she had pointed to the lawyer and said he fondled her breast. The girl had also pointed to her private part.

This occurred after the court session for which the grandmother sought the help of the randy lawyer. The lawyer and the girl were seen walking around the court premises after court proceedings with the former holding her hands. People who saw the two of them holding hands and walking about had asked the lawyer if he was related to the girl and he had told them the girl was his daughter.  Additionally, the lawyer was accused of placing the 9 year old girl on his lap and gave the girl his mobile phone to play with so as to allow him finger the girl and fondle her breast.

According to an eye witness, the girl cried out when the lawyer kept on fondling her breast and fingering her. The girl reported to her grandmother and the later showed her rage by repeatedly slapping the lawyer. This had attracted the attention of everyone around the court premises. Another court proceeding was going on when this happened and the court proceeding was disrupted as a result of the incidence that occurred just outside the court room.

Magistrate K.B Ayeye’s attention was drawn to the incidence. The helpless girl told the magistrate directly what the lawyer had done to her. Without any delay, the magistrate ordered the arrest of the randy lawyer and he was taken to the Lion Building Police Station in Lagos. The news was greeted with shock by Nigerians.  Some are of the opinion that this charge is enough to bring a permanent dent to the reputation of the charge and bail profession. The authorities of the court and the police have also refused to make public the name of the accused lawyer.
