Tompolo's father dies weeks after alleged military brutality

Three months after the military invaded his house, the father of embattled ex-militant leader, High Chief Government Ekpemupolo alias Tompolo, Chief Osen Ekpemupolo, is dead.

The 84-year-old Tunteriwei of Gbaramatu Kingdom died on Wednesday morning in Warri, Delta State.

A family source told our correspondents that Tompolo's father died yesterday at a popular Lily Clinic, after months of battling injuries sustained from the alleged military invasion.

Tompolo's spokesman, Paul Bebenimibo, confirmed the demise, saying that the 84-year- old died as a result of injuries sustained during the military expeditions into his community in Gbaramatu kingdom recently.

It was gathered that his health situation had been compounded by the rough experience he was subjected to during the military expedition as he was being moved from one place to another.

However, the ex-militant leader, Tompolo, in a strongly worded open letter to President Muhammadu Buhari, dated 22nd of July 2016, raised the alarm that the military invasion of the Kingdom had led to the brutalisation of his aged father by the army which later led to the amputation of his lower limb.

In the said letter, Tompolo had expressed fears that his father might not survive the alleged severe military torture meted out on his aged body.

In his word, "the rough treatment" his father received in the hands of the soldiers led to the amputation of his lower limbs in July.

"From the doctor's report, it will be a thing of miracle if he survives this incident," said Tompolo, who had remained at large after he was declared wanted by the Nigerian government in February.

"Is this 84 year old man also a member of the Niger Delta Avengers that they brutalized him to the point of death?"
