Twenty two Commissioners of Police (CPs) have been promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIGs). Also, 29 Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) have been promoted to their next rank of Commissioners.
The Police Service Commission (PSC), the body responsible for the promotion of senior police officers disclosed this in a statement in Abuja, Wednesday.
The statement which was signed by the commission's Spokesman, Ikechukwu Ani, disclosed that the officers were screened by a panel headed by the Chairman of the Commission, Mike Okiro on Tuesday, July 19.
The promotions, the statement reiterated, were based on the recommendation of availability of vacancies in the AIG and CP cadres of the Force and the need to fill the anticipated vacuums occasioned by the recent force reorganization.
It was also based on the need to put structures in place in the various Zonal Commands.
The commission also considered the issue of seniority and diligence to duty of the Officers.
