There are tensions in Plateau state over the murder of a first class monarch, Lazarus Agai, who was killed by suspected Fulani herdsmen in company of his wife, son and aide.
According to reports, soldiers serving with the Special Task Force (STF) in Jos, on Thursday opened fire on rampaging youth who blocked a road in Bokkos in protest of the killings.
At least one person was killed, and 5 others injured, as youths refused to let the soldiers through.
The youths are demanding that the killers of the Monarch be apprehended.
The leader of the Fulani community in the Local Government Council Yakubu Boro, stated that in retaliation, the restless youths had burnt houses in five Fulani settlements. Boro alleged that about 300 Fulani herdsmen were displaced.
The Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) in charge of operations, Habila Joshak, has been dispatched to Bokkos, to ensure the arrest of the killers of the monarch.
At the palace of the late monarch, Joshak appealed for calm, assuring the youths that the culprits would be arrested.
The State Governor, Simon Lalong, imposed a curfew in Bokkos, and has issued a statement informing indigenes that he will bring the masterminds of the monarch's death to book.
