DSS arraigns two for cloning Ambode's number

An Isolo Magistrate Court in Lagos yesterday remanded two suspected fraudster arrested by Department of State Service (DSS) at the kirikiri prison for allegedly cloning the phone number of Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Abode.

The accused; Rilwanu Jamiu and Balogun Stanley Oyewole are standing trial for a two count charge bordering on fraud.

The suspects were alleged to have conspired to commit felony, obtaining by false pretence on February 10, 2016.

Count two of the charge preferred against them reads:" That you Rilwanu Jamiu, Balogun Stanley Oyewole on above date and place fraudulently cloned the Glo line number of His Excellency, the Governor of Lagos State, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode, with intent to induce him by false pretence and used the Glo line to send a text message for the transfer of a sum of fifty million naira and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 312 (2) and (3) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State".

Also docked with the defendants is one Aderemi Bello who was charge with impersonation and fraud.

Bello's charge reads: "That you Aderemi Martins Bello of No 2 Walter Carrington Street, Victoria Island on February, 2016 at the USA Embassy within Lagos Magisterial District, impersonated as United State of America citizen and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 378 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State."

Bello was alleged to have fraudulently collected the sum of four hundred and eight five naira from one Isaac Ademola Fowowe, for procurement of USA citizenship passport application.

All the accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Prosecuting Counsel, Peter Okerin modun, prayed the court to remand the accused who are not represented by counsel in prison custody due to sensitivity of the case.
Okerinmodun told the court that some of the accomplice of the defendants were still at large and releasing the accused could jeopardise the trial and the evidence.
