The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has warned against the sale of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) above the N4,000 benchmark. 

The warning was issued by the JAMB registrar, Ishaq Oloyede, on Tuesday, January 21, during an interactive meeting with stakeholders at the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) headquarters in Abuja. Oloyede said anyone found selling UTME forms to applicants above N4,000 would be arrested and prosecuted by personnel of the NSCDC. He also advised any candidate charged above the slated amount for the UTME form by any of the approved Computer Based Test Centres should report to the NSCDC office nearest to them. He further explained that the N3,290 out of the N4,000 paid by the applicant was for the form, N500 for booklet while N210 was deducted as bank charge. According to him a bank and several other CBT centres and schools in some states - Anambra, Delta, Bayelsa, Enugu, Rivers and Adamawa - were found to have increased the amount of the UTME forms sold to candidates. He said punitive measures were taken against them as one of the people selling above the approved sum was paraded by the NSCDC. Also speaking, the commandant general of the NSCDC, Gana Muhammadu, warned the state commandants against getting involved in the fraud. Muhammadu said: “Nigerians have confidence in you, don’t betray it. If you mess up, I will send you out.”
