School bus involved in accident: 2 kids killed, 98 injured

A school bus carrying pupil of Our Lady of Fatima School, Kuru, near Jos in Plateau State has been involved in an accident, resulting to the death of two of its pupils, early morning on Monday. 

An official of the Federal Road Safety Corps speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria said the accident which occurred around Mararaba-Jama'a was as a result of brake failure.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, the official said: "A total of 100 children and seven staff were in the bus; two children were killed instantly, while those injured have been taken to hospitals." The two pupils killed were a boy and a girl.

18 kids, he added have been taken to Our Lady of Fatima Hospital, Jos while 76 to the Plateau Specialist Hospital, Jos and another four others were rushed to Bukuru Specialist Hospital.

Gov. Simon Lalong of Plateau state has visited some of the injured children taken to Plateau Specialist Hospital. Lalong, who visited the children on their individual beds, spoke to them in whispers, urging them to be strong.

Mr. Yakub Dati, the state's Commissioner for Information and Communication, later told NAN that the governor had promised to pay the medical bills of the survivors.
