British Airways, Air France to suspend flights to and from Tehran

Commercial airlines, British Airways and Air France on Thursday announced that flights to and from Tehran will be suspended from next month.

On its part, British Airways the decision was not made in view of the reintroduction of sanction on Iran by US President Donald Trump but rather down to the commercial viability of the route.

"We are suspending our London to Tehran service as the operation is currently not commercially viable," said the flagship carrier.

It also said the last flight to Tehran will be on September 22 while that from Tehran will be on September 23, it added.

Air France, the French arm of Franco-Dutch airlines group Air France KLM, followed similar rhetoric with a spokesperson saying  flights will to Tehran will end from September 18 because of "the line's weak performance".

Last month, the Dutch arm KLM, announced it is suspending Tehran flights due to "negative results and financial outlook" adding that discussion were ongoing with partner airlines to offer customers re-booking options or full refunds.

Sanctions reimposed on Iran by the US Government are set to come into effect in November forcing European and other international companies to call time on their business activities in the country.
