Chelsea Thrashed At Home By Southampton

Jose Mourinho would be licking his wounds and asking himself barrage of questions on how he got it wrong. His side went down, like a castle of card, again in yesterday's BPL week 8 match. Chelsea’s terrible start to the season continued as Southampton came from behind to record a stunning victory at Stamford Bridge. The Premier League champions took an early lead through Willian’s free-kick. Steven Davis scored an equaliser before Sadio Mane ran through after a defensive error to put Saints ahead.

Graziano Pelle’s angled finish sealed victory for Southampton, who climb to ninth in the table. Chelsea’s fourth defeat of the season leaves them 16th on the Barclays Premier League table.

It would be recalled that Jose Mourinho's side was the Barclay's Premier League Champions for last season. Performance of the club this season would be the worst ever in recent times. By this time last season, Chelsea was competing at the summit of the BPL. However, Jose Mourinho is not giving up on the chances of his team this season regarding the defence of the title they won last season. In his post match chat, he insisted that all is not lost and his side can still bounce back to reclaim the BPL summit presently occupied by Manchester City, considering the fact that the BPL is just in its 8th week.

In other matches, Sergio Aguero scored five times in 20 minutes as Manchester City came from behind to thrash Newcastle 6-1 and return to the Barclays Premier League summit. Aleksandar Mitrovic had given the winless Magpies a shock lead at the Etihad Stadium but Aguero burst to life either side of half-time with a nine-minute hat-trick.

The Hornets were gifted their equaliser when goalkeeper Artur Boruc misplaced his kicked to striker Odion Ighalo.

Sunderland edged above their rivals with a 2-2 draw at home to West Ham but a first win of the season was given away by the team.

Steven Fletcher and Jeremain Lens put the Black Cats two goals up in just 22 minutes with the second goal being a lovely chipped finish and it was enough to give them the day. But Carl Jenkinson pulled one back in first-half injury-time, Lens was sent off for a second yellow card and Dimitri Payet levelled on the hour.

Crystal Palace moved third in the table after a 2-0 home win in the early kick-off against West Brom. It was 0-0 until the 68th minute, when Yannick Bolasie netted, and Yohan Cabaye’s late penalty sealed it. By then the Baggies had already lost Jonny Evans and James Morrison to injury.

Leicester, beaten by Arsenal last time out, returned to winning ways with a 2-1 success at Norwich. Jamie Vardy won and converted a debatable penalty in the 28th minute, taking his tally to seven in eight appearances this season, before Jeffrey Schlupp doubled the lead for Leicester City. Dieumerci Mbokani’s first goal for the Canaries reduced the goal tally but there was no equaliser and his effort was not enough to reverse the lose.
