ATM Card Thieves Docked in Lagos

For allegedly breaking the safe of a company and stealing over N1million, two suspects, Oyeladun Festus 28 and Hillary Toyin, 27, were on today October 5 remanded in prison custody by an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court 12, Ogba, Lagos. The suspects, according to the police prosecutor, Corporal Una Michael, conspired and broke the safe of a company located at 87, Surulere Street, Dopemu-Agege, Lagos. They were also charged with stealing N859,000 inside the safe and another N220,000 in the office. Both suspects pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge against them.

 

Defence counsel, A.O Badejo and J.O Oscar pleaded for the bail of the suspects in liberal terms. The trail chief magistrate, Mrs. E. Kubeyinje admitted each of them to bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties each, in like sum who must swear to affidavit of means and show evidence of tax payment. Until they meet these bail conditions Oyeladun and Hillary remain in prison while the matter was adjourned till November 2, 21015 for mention.

Meanwhile, An Ikeja Magistrates’ court 12 on today October 5, remanded three suspected thieves in police custody at Kirikiri Medium Prison, Apapa. The hoodlums were alleged to have manipulated their victims’ Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards to withdraw thousands of naira from their accounts. They were accused of picking on their victims randomly and robbing them of their ATM cards and the crime is usually perpetrated while threatening their victims with dangerous weapons.

The trio, Abiodun Aguda, 30; Dapo Olarenwaju, 27 and 30-year old Olalekan Abraham allegedly stole credit cards belonging to one Allen Sosu and stole his N70,000 with his Ipad phone worth N45,000. Police prosecutor, Corporal Una Michael, alleged they committed the offence on September 20, 2015 at Aga street, Iju-Ishaga near Agege, Lagos state. Their second victim, Tunde Fawehinmi lost his ATM card and the sum of N145,000 to the three suspects on September 25, 2015 at railway line, Fagba, in Ifako Ijaiye area of the state.

All the three suspects pleaded not guilty to the four-count charge preferred against them. The presiding chief magistrate, Mrs Kubeyinje admitted them to bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum. They will remain in prison until their sureties perfect the bail conditions.

In another news, A thirty-two year old man, Monday Jonah, has been dragged to court for allegedly defiling an 11-year old girl (names withheld). Monday’s case is yet to be adopted because of his conduct while in the dock. But the two count charge of unlawfully and indecently assaulting the teenage girl and defilement, was read to him.

However, the suspect refused to make any plea. Even when the trial chief magistrate Tajudeen A Ehias asked him; “out of the two counts, which one is correct, which one is not correct?” In an out of dock, the defendant was weeping but the said nothing tangible until the matter was stood down. Whether head or tail, Monday will be remanded in prison custody pending advice from the Director of Public prosecution in Lagos state. If found guilty, he would be jailed.
