Don’t declare Kalu’s seat vacant - APGA chieftain tells NASS

David Onuoha Bourdex, a member of Board of Trustees (BoT) of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), has faulted politicians calling for the National Assembly to declare Abia North senatorial seat, occupied by Senator Orji Uzor Kalu vacant.

Bourdex told journalists that declaring Kalu’s seat vacant would amount to undermining the electoral preferences of the people. The politician urged ambitious politicians to respect the wishes of the electorate that voted for Kalu, New Telegraph reports. He said though Kalu was facing some challenges, it would be presumptuous to declare his seat vacant when he still had the option of appealing his conviction. He said those asking the National Assembly to declare the seat vacant were desperate to join the Senate through the backdoor. Meanwhile, a former governor of Abia state, Orji Uzor Kalu, who was recently sentenced to a 12-year jail term by a Federal High Court in Lagos, on Tuesday, December 17, has applied for a post-conviction bail. Kalu applied for the bail on the grounds that he is presently battling with his poor health which the prison facility cannot take care of. The former chief whip of the Senate also said that his constituency will suffer a terrible setback if he remains in prison However, Kalu's bail application has been opposed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
