Former Super Eagles striker joins European giants

Former Super Eagles star Joseph Akpala has returned to struggling Belgian League club KV Oostende until the end of the season.
The 33-year-old spent the 2018-19 league season in Saudi Arabia topflight side Al-Faisaly where he scored 12 goals in 62 meetings. He has however been re-signed by the Versluys Arena outfit to ensure they turn their struggles in the league around. They are currently sitting 14th on the log in a league with 16 teams with just 12 points from 15 matches so far this campaign. Before his return to the Belgian club, Akpala was said to have hinted he was looking for a new challenge in one of the top European Leagues. Meanwhile, his current deal will expire at the end of this season and might be given a year extension depending on his performance. The club said on their official website: "There were several conversations that showed that Joseph was motivated to help KVO advance in a sporting way."We managed to get out of it financially and so we have an extra option in the attack. Moreover, Joseph's mentality is always top-notch and he can be an example for the young people at the core, ”says sports director Guy Ghysel. The club further revealed that: "Akpala is happy to be back and hopes to be able to contribute to a good second half of the season. Before he landed by the sea in the summer of 2015, he played with the Turkish Karabükspor, Club Brugge and Charleroi, among others.
