Anambra State Commissioner for Women and Children Affairs, Lady Ndidi Mezue, has uncovered two baby factories in Onitsha and Obosi, during an inspection of orphanage homes, in her efforts to stem the scourge of child trafficking in the state.
The inspection which was led by the Honorable Commissioner, in conjunction with the Police, DSS and Civil Defence, including the ministry staff, saw the taskforce visiting community children homes in Ogidi, Nkpor, Obosi and Onitsha, with the aim of inspecting the general environment, water sources, hygiene and operational licence of the facilities. A grim discovery was however made at Obosi, when the team uncovered a room in an orphanage where two pregnant young girls were locked up and fed in an inhuman manner. Lady Mezue, immediately rescued the girls, whom one among them was severely malnourished, and subsequently arrested the home manager for further investigation.
